Jafari Credit Union offers one of the broadest ranges of halal financial products among credit unions in the U.S. Their Qard Hasan model — where the borrower repays only the principal with no interest — aligns with Islamic principles. As a member-owned credit union, they are mission-driven rather than profit-maximizing. Currently serving members in Texas.

Financing Structure

Jafari Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution based in Houston, Texas, offering halal financial services using primarily a Qard Hasan (benevolent loan) model. In this structure, the credit union lends money and the borrower repays only the principal amount — no interest is charged.
What distinguishes Jafari is its breadth of products for a credit union: savings accounts (FDIC-insured), auto financing, personal loans, expense financing, equipment financing for businesses, and loan refinancing. This makes it one of the few institutions where Muslim families can consolidate multiple financial needs.
As a credit union, Jafari is member-owned and operates as a not-for-profit. This structure means any surplus benefits the members rather than outside shareholders. Their Texas-based operations limit geographic availability.
Jafari Credit Union is one of the few U.S. credit unions offering multiple halal financial products. Here's how it compares.
NorthCountry offers halal personal loans in 3 states (VT, NH, NY) via a credit union model. Jafari has a broader product range but is limited to Texas.
LARIBA offers a wider range of products (home, auto, banking, retirement, business) across 21 states. Compare if you need geographic reach beyond Texas.
Bottom Line
Jafari Credit Union is a strong choice for Texas-based Muslims seeking a member-owned, interest-free financial institution with multiple product types. The Qard Hasan model is one of the most straightforward halal structures available. For those outside Texas, look at nationwide providers.

Good credit union if you're in their area. The product selection is more limited than a big bank but everything is halal by default which is the whole point.
Opened a savings account with them. No interest, just the way it should be. The staff is friendly and gets it. Limited branch access but that's the reality of a small credit union.
