Editorial Policy
HalalWallet publishes comparison data, educational guides, and tools for people evaluating Shariah-compliant financial products in the United States. Built by Bobby Mallon, Kyle Natter, and Zain Arshad through Niya, this policy defines the standards our team follows to maintain accuracy, independence, and trust.
1. Accuracy First
Accuracy is our highest editorial priority — especially because halal finance intersects with religious obligations. Getting something wrong could lead users to make financial decisions that conflict with their faith.
Specifically, we follow these rules:
- We never fabricate specific financial figures (Nisab dollar amounts, gold prices, interest rates) that could be inaccurate.
- When information is uncertain, varies by institution, or depends on scholarly interpretation, we state that clearly rather than presenting a single “answer.”
- Time-sensitive data (rates, fees, state availability) always includes a note to verify directly with the provider.
- We use dynamic/live data sources where available (e.g., live gold prices for Nisab calculation) rather than hardcoded values that can become stale.
2. Editorial Independence
Revenue partnerships exist to sustain the platform — but they do not control our editorial output. Specifically:
- Ranking order is determined by data completeness and relevance, not by payment.
- Product inclusion is based on the product being a genuine Shariah-compliant offering available to U.S. consumers, not on whether the provider pays us.
- Featured labels are the only editorial signal influenced by partnerships, and they are clearly labeled.
- Data accuracy standards apply equally to partners and non-partners. We do not omit negative information about partners.
Full details on our revenue model are available on our Disclosures page.
3. Shariah and Religious Content
Content that touches on Islamic law requires particular care. Our approach:
- We present provider-reported Shariah compliance information for user evaluation, not as our own religious ruling.
- We clearly label the type of Shariah oversight each provider has (Formal Board, Third-Party Certified, Named Scholar, or No Public Review) based on documented public disclosures.
- We acknowledge that Islamic jurisprudence involves legitimate scholarly differences (ikhtilaf). We do not present one school's position as the only valid interpretation.
- We always recommend that users consult qualified Islamic scholars for personal religious determinations.
- Zakat, Nisab, and other obligation-related content includes disclaimers that calculations are tools — not substitutes for scholarly guidance.
4. Content Creation Process
All content published on HalalWallet goes through the following process:
- Research — The topic is researched using primary sources: provider documentation, regulatory filings, academic publications, and recognized Islamic finance standards.
- Drafting — Content is written with a focus on clarity, factual accuracy, and practical usefulness for U.S. consumers.
- Review — The HalalWallet Editorial Team reviews the content for accuracy, tone, completeness, and compliance with this policy.
- Publication — Approved content is published with a review date and reviewer attribution.
- Ongoing maintenance — Published content is reviewed on a quarterly cadence and updated when source material changes.
5. Updates and Corrections
We update content continuously as provider information changes. Our correction priorities:
- Critical corrections (Shariah oversight misclassification, wrong state availability, incorrect product structure) — fixed within 24–48 hours of discovery.
- High-priority updates (pricing changes, new product launches, provider name changes) — updated within one week.
- Routine updates (feature additions, minor text improvements, new blog content) — handled during the quarterly review cycle.
If you spot an error, please contact us immediately. We take every correction seriously and prioritize accuracy above convenience.
6. Use of AI and Automation
AI tools may assist in research, data processing, or initial content drafting. However, all published content is reviewed and approved by the HalalWallet Editorial Team before publication. We never publish AI-generated content without human review — especially for content involving religious guidance, financial figures, or provider-specific claims.
7. Religious and Financial Disclaimers
HalalWallet is not a religious authority, financial advisor, bank, or lender. Our content is educational and comparative — it does not constitute religious guidance, financial advice, or a recommendation to purchase any specific product. Users should:
- Verify all product details directly with the provider before making financial decisions.
- Consult qualified Islamic scholars for faith-specific determinations about product compliance.
- Consult licensed financial advisors for personalized financial guidance.
