Definition

The branch of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) that governs commercial and financial transactions. It covers the rules for sales, partnerships, leases, guarantees, agency, and all forms of economic exchange. Fiqh al-muamalat is derived from the Quran, Sunnah (prophetic traditions), ijma (scholarly consensus), and qiyas (analogical reasoning).

It provides the legal foundation for all Islamic financial products. Different schools of thought (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) may reach different conclusions on specific structures.
