Halal Investing in Oregon
The Wahed Real Estate Fund, launched April 30, 2026, is the first Shariah-compliant single-family residential real estate fund in the US open to non-accredited investors. From $100 (10 shares), investors get pooled exposure to a professionally managed portfolio of single-family rental homes, initially concentrated in Texas, North Carolina, and Michigan, building toward a $75 million target portfolio. Every property is acquired with 100% equity: zero debt, zero leverage, no lender claim at any level, versus the 30-35% debt ratios many 'Shariah-compliant' real estate structures permit. Returns come from quarterly rental income distributions plus long-term property appreciation, with a stated target of 5-7% annual net returns.
The Wahed Real Estate Fund solves a real problem: until now, Muslim Americans wanting residential real estate exposure needed either an interest-based mortgage, a halal financing contract on a single property, or accredited status for private funds like Deenvest. This fund removes all three barriers at once with a $100 minimum, and its zero-debt structure is stricter than most halal-labeled real estate products on the market. The trade-offs are typical of non-traded real estate: locked-up liquidity (six-month hold, two redemption windows a year, tiered exit fees), a 3% acquisition fee that stings while the portfolio is being built, and a return target that is only a target. For investors who understand they are buying a long-term income asset rather than a liquid security, it is the most accessible genuinely structured halal real estate vehicle in the US.

Good app, easy to use. Returns have been okay - nothing crazy but I'm in it for the long term. Wish they had more account types like a 529 or something.
The robo-advisor approach works well if you don't want to pick individual stocks. Set my risk level and let it do its thing. Rebalancing happens automatically.
